Roofing FAQ

All County Roofing knows that you have roofing questions and we also know that you really want those questions answered by professional roofers who have your best interest in mind, not the other way around.

Take a few minutes and see if any of your questions can be answered in our list of roofing FAQ  below. And if it is not on the list feel free to contact us so we can help you get them answered.

What is the cost of a new roof installation?

This is the starter question. How Much? Right? What will it cost to get a new roof put on your home or business? This is the number one asked question for us at All County Roofing and its not even close.

A quick answer is, and this would be super rough estimate, depending on the height, surface area, slope, hips and valleys, vent systems, chimneys, skylights, style or materials used you could be in the roundabout range of, now this is for asphalt or laminate shingles only, $20.00 – $75.00 per square foot.

These numbers are extremely high and extremely low for full roofing installations, but as you can see, there is so much to consider.

Architectural roofing installation in Vancouver, WA or Clark County, WA average is;

$254.46 per 100 sq. Ft. (standard quality, overlay existing roof) (Range: $189.94 – $318.97)

$385.00 per 100 sq. Ft. (standard quality, tear off existing roof) (Range: $275.00 – $495.00)

What is the cost difference of a shingled roof vs. a metal roof?

A standing seam style metal roof will cost between 2.5-4 time higher than your average shingle roof system. They might cost more, but they will also last longer and take less amount of maintenance. An architectural shingled roof can last anywhere between 10 to 30 years depending on the product installed while a metal roof can last 20-50 years easily.

As long as they are installed correctly, both styles are efficient in roof coverings.

Metal roof installation In Vancouver, WA or Clark County, WA average is;

$1,200.00 per 100 sq. Ft (metal shingles, no tear-off of existing roof) (Range: $900.00 – $1,500.00)

$949.15 per 100 sq. ft (standing seam, no tear-off of existing roof) (Range: $761.81 – $1,136.49)

Do you use sub-contractors or use your employees to install a roof?

All County Roofing employs the best roofers in Vancouver, WA. Unfortunately, we are in the Pacific NW
and cannot service everyone in need of new roofing. But we try! Many roofing contractors use both inhouse
employees and sub-contractors depending on the scope of work. Some companies specialize in
certain types of roof covering and sub out the more uncommon styles in that region.

For example, All County Roofing specializes in complete reroofs and new shingle and metal roof
installations. If we got a call for a clay or slate style roof, we could call another contractor who
specializes in that style of roof coverings to do the job through us. This would be considered a subcontractor.

All County Roofing is your local Clark County Washington roofing professional.

Our crews at All County Roofing are very experienced roofing in the Vancouver, WA vicinity and know
what challenges our weather can have on an aged roof. Their attention to detail and work ethic is
unmatched in the area. While speed and efficiency is our goal we take the time to make sure each and
every aspect of the scope of work is done precisely and correct, that includes our clean up and final walk
through.

Over the years working in the roofing industry I have noticed the pride roofing professionals carry after a
project is finished and it makes it that much better when the customer looks at their new roof with the
same type of pride and happiness.

No. Your roof is safe with us. All County Roofing is a family run business that is honest and is a contractor you can trust to get the job done safely and without issue. We have a dedicated crew and project management that oversees the happenings at each project.

Do I need a new roof or not?

If you have ever seen a dilapidated roof in your neighborhood, you know, the blue tarp special or the
mismatched shingle patches if you look closely you might be able to notice the cause of some of the
problems.

First and foremost, if the roof is not installed correctly, the fail percentage is going to be significantly
higher than if the roofing was installed the right way to manufacturer spec. That is a given.

Trees are a huge stress on roofing they cause all sorts of damage either from fallen leaves and possible
broken limbs, not allowing roofs to dry properly after bad weather, which can cause moss growth. It’s a
rule of thumb to keep limbs pruned at least 6 feet up and back from rooftops of homes and businesses.

In Clark County Washington All County Roofing comes across all types of damage to roof systems. Just to
name a few; bad attic space ventilation, extreme weather, and mold or moss are other causes of failure.
There is a lot of different reason, too many to cover in this FAQ but check out our blog where we go into
depth on many of these scenarios.

Failure signs can happen easily and sometimes unknown unless you know what to look for. After all, you
see your roof every day and for something to stand out to you could be kind of hard. Take a look at
these signs and next time you’re able to peek up at the roof check to see if you notice any.

• Torn, broken, damaged shingles
• Loss of the asphalt(bare) granulation
• Failing or pulled away caulking
• Moisture under the eves
• Overflowing gutter
• Watermarks on the ceiling
• Rotted facia boards
• Bubbled, cracking, discolored interior drywall
• Decaying shingles
• Rusted or missing flashing
• Missing shingles
• Curling shingles
• Wind damage
• Visible cracks

All County Roofing recommends having a roofing consultation on a roof over the age of 12 years just to
be safe. Vancouver, WA and our surrounding cities are encompassed by rivers and lakes, and we get a
lot of moisture on our roofing system, and that tends to speed up the decaying process.

Should I hire the cheapest Roofing Contractor?

When choosing a roofing contractor, we all want the best price right? I say yes to that, although I don’t
want the cheapest quality. Get my point? Many times, the super low cost comes with cut corners, so the
contractor can still make money.

This is unfortunate because the extra cost will come back to haunt the homeowner down the line and
the contractor is nowhere to be found. It happens all the time. We get called to tear off 5-year-old roofs
because they were not installed correctly and up to code and by doing it that way, almost always the
roof fails and leaks, causing extensive damage to the home or business.

Make sure and do your research and find a good roofing contractor who you can trust like All County
Roofing. We have been serving Vancouver, WA and surrounding areas for over 25 years and would love
to help you with your roof.

How long does it take to roof a house or business?

All County Roofing goes through a process that depends on how fast the customer needs or wants a roof
and decides to choose us, can take from a few days to a month depending on schedule, weather, or
other factors. Depending on the size of the job the project can range from 2000 Sq. Ft @ 1-3days for
tear off and replace. Or 6000 Sq. ft @ 7-10 days. Close but rough estimates. If a house needed a full
decking replacement, of course, the task would take longer.

1. Customer contact
2. Estimate
3. Estimate acceptance
4. Contract signing/initial payment 50%
5. Material ordering and delivery date set
6. Scheduling Roofing crew
7. The scope of work commences (actual roofing being installed or replaced)
8. Final walkthrough
9. Final payment
10. The scope of work Concludes

Can I do anything to help the roofing process?

One thing we do ask is that if possible, there is a power source to be used outside. (if not that’s fine we
have generators).
